Plan your project
For a painted wood sign you’ll need:
- Wood sign blank or board
- Sandpaper
- Base coat paint
- Stencil vinyl
- Transfer tape
- Weeding tool
- Scraper
- Acrylic paint for the lettering
- Stencil brush or foam pouncer
Supplies for laser wood signs
For a laser-engraved wood sign you’ll need:
- Laser engraver or cutter
- Wood board or sign blank
- Masking tape to reduce scorch marks
- Sandpaper
- Wood glue for layered cut pieces
- Clear sealer or finishing oil
For a banner or garden flag you’ll need:
- Fabric banner or garden flag blank
- Heat transfer vinyl
- Weeding tool
- Heat press or household iron
- Heat-resistant cover sheet or parchment paper
- Dowel or flag stand
Tips by method
The calligraphy is very thin. Cut it at 18 inches or wider, or use it for a painted sign.
- Adhesive or heat-transfer vinyl
- Cut it large. The fine lines and small pieces are hard to weed at small sizes.
- Laser
- Engrave it. The details are too fine to cut cleanly.
- Sublimation
- Print the PNG. No cutting or weeding.
