Fix common file problems
| Problem | Try this |
|---|---|
| “Unsupported file type” or “Failed to open the file” | You’re probably uploading the ZIP. Extract it first, then upload the SVG inside. |
| The design looks blank | Zoom out, or change the background color. Some designs are white or light colored. |
| No cut lines | You opened the PNG. Upload the SVG (or the DXF in Silhouette Basic Edition) instead. |
| Silhouette won’t open the SVG | SVG needs Designer Edition or higher. Use the DXF in Basic Edition. |
| The file shows a page of code | That’s what an SVG looks like in a text viewer. Open it from your cutting software. |
| The ZIP won’t extract | Make sure the download finished, then try 7-Zip (Windows) or The Unarchiver (Mac). |
| Do I need the fonts? | No. Lettering is already converted to shapes and cuts as shown. Fonts only matter if you add your own name or text. |
| The design has several colors | Each color is its own layer. Ungroup or use Contour or Hide to cut one color at a time. |
Detail levels
Each design has an estimated detail level, based on an automated check of line widths and piece sizes. It’s a guide, not a cut test.
| Level | What it means |
|---|---|
| Simple | Bold shapes that cut and weed easily at most sizes. |
| Moderate detail | Some thin lines or small pieces. Best at medium or large sizes for vinyl and HTV. |
| Intricate | Fine lines and small pieces. Cut it large, or use the PNG for printing and sublimation. |
For small items like mugs, coasters or kids’ shirts, pick a Simple design or print the PNG. Script lettering and flourishes look their best when you give them room.
