Why does my SVG look like one solid shape?
Short answer
A one-color design shows as a single filled shape on the canvas, and that’s normal: the openings still cut. If there are no cut lines at all, you uploaded the PNG. Upload the SVG instead.
A one-color design
Most designs are one color, so they upload as one layer. On the canvas the design looks filled in, but the letters, openings and details are still there and cut as shown. Zoom in to check.
No cut lines at all
You probably opened the PNG. A PNG is a flat picture. Upload the SVG, or the DXF in Silhouette Studio Basic Edition. Which file to use
The design has several colors
Each color is its own layer. Ungroup the design, or use Contour or Hide, to cut one color at a time.
The design looks blank
Zoom out, or change the background color. Some designs are white or light colored.
